What Are the side EFFECTS?
Steroids can have a negative effect on the body if not taken properly There are problems externally and internally. Externally, some side effects are Gynocomastia, pimples, anger, and hair loss. Internal effects are liver failure, elevated blood pressure, organ growth, and elevated estrogen levels. (Steroid.com).
External effects that steroids cause can make it obvious that you are taking them. At first everything may seem like it is ok, but a steroids takes about two weeks to affect your body. After two weeks your body will start to develop pimples on the back, chest, and arms of the user. The pimples usually are big, leading your body to have many white-headed pimples all over it. “Increased sebaceous gland activity promotes oily skin which can combine with bacteria and dead skin eventually causing pores to become clogged more quickly than the body can cleanse them (Think Steroids).”
With elevated testosterone levels, your body is now in an anabolic state. With that you start to feel like you are the “alpha dog.” When in that state of mind, the littlest of things will get to you faster making your temper shorter. The shorter temper affects the people around you. Yelling and starting fights over little things is an aspect of steroid abuse.
“Hair loss is a common side effect to steroids. The reason steroids can cause premature balding is that the scalp reacts to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) quite strongly, and many steroids can either convert to DHT or are derived from it (Think Steroids).”
The worst external side effect by far is Gynocomastia. Gynocomastia, also known as gyno occurs when the steroid is out of the body. A steroid elevates your testosterone chemically causing your body to stop developing testosterone naturally. When your test levels elevate, so does your estrogen. After the steroid has left your body, it does not support you with testosterone. Since your body does not produce natural testosterone, you are left with high levels of estrogen. When this occurs, that’s when gyno comes in. with the elevated estrogen, and no production of testosterone, your body begins to develop breast tissues. It is soft, sensitive, and puffs the nipple out. Gyno cannot just go away. After you have developed gyno the only way to get rid of it would be plastic surgery where they surgically remove the breast tissue under the nipple. Unless you get your test levels back to normal after the surgery, gyno can return. (Steroid.com)
Internal side effects and what can hurt the body the most. Steroids put a lot of demand on the body, and without support from other supplements steroids can’t destroy your body internally. When taking steroids orally, they bypass your liver. “When something goes through the liver, it is broken down by multiple enzymes, and then passed along into the bloodstream. Liver enzymes are elevated following ingestion of steroids (AnabolicBible.org).” When they stay elevated for long periods of time, the liver starts to damage itself because it is not filtering out the waste.
Blood pressure is a big problem with steroid abuse. When taking steroids, you are trying to put on as much bulk as you possibly can. This causes you to have a higher calorie intake, and with that usually comes a higher fat percentage in your body. When this happens your blood pressure might go up from the foods you are eating if you are taking in more sodium, and fats.
Organ growth is one of the most serious side effects to steroids. What people do not realize is that your organs are muscles also. When taking a steroid, it is designed to strengthen and grow muscles. Steroids can lead to heart, stomach, kidneys, and etc. to grow. When they grow the abuser usually looks like his stomach is bloated. This is because of the growth of his/her organs. When an organ grows it cannot shirk back to normal size. The organ now will have to work harder to support the body leading most organs to fail early in the abusers life.
The last major internal side effect is elevated estrogen. When steroids raise your test levels chemically, your natural production of estrogen elevates to match the higher levels of testosterone. When the steroids chemically raised test production ends, the body does not begin to produce natural testosterone. When this happens your body is now left with the elevated estrogen levels, and no testosterone to help the body eliminate the extra estrogen.
